چکیده

We (analytically) calculate the energy spectrum corresponding to various experimental and numerical turbulence data analyzed by Benzi et al. 1]. We nd two bottleneck phenomena: While the local scaling exponent r (r) of the structure function decreases monotonically, the local scaling exponent p (p) of the corresponding spectrum has a minimum of p (p min) 0:45 at p min (10) ?1 and a maximum of p (p max) 0:77 at p max 8L ?1. A physical argument starting from the constant energy ux in p{space reveals the general mechanism underlying the energy pileups at both ends of the p{space scaling range. In the case studied here, they are induced by viscous dissipation and the reduced spectral strength on the scale of the system size, respectively.

We (analytically) calculate the energy spectrum corresponding to various experimental and numerical turbulence data analyzed by Benzi et al. [1]. We find two bottleneck phenomena: While the local scaling exponent ζr(r) of the structure function decreases monotonically, the local scaling exponent ζp(p) of the corresponding spectrum has a minimum of ζp(pmin) ≈ 0.45 at pmin ≈ (10η) and a maximum o...

Anisotropy and scaling corrections in turbulence.

Two parametrizations for second order velocity moments, the Batchelor parametrization for the r-space structure function and a common parametrization for the energy spectrum, E(p) ∝ p exp(−p/pd), are examined and compared. In particular, we investigate corrections to the local scaling exponents induced by finite size effects. The behavior of local r– and p–space exponents differs dramatically. ...

Nonlocal interactions in hydrodynamic turbulence at high Reynolds numbers: the slow emergence of scaling laws.

We analyze the data stemming from a forced incompressible hydrodynamic simulation on a grid of 2048(3) regularly spaced points, with a Taylor Reynolds number of R(lambda) ~ 1300. The forcing is given by the Taylor-Green vortex, which shares similarities with the von Kàrmàn flow used in several laboratory experiments; the computation is run for ten turnover times in the turbulent steady state. A...

THREE DIMENSIONAL MODELING OF TURBULENT FLOW WITH FREE SURFACE IN MOLD FILLING

In the present study a Finite Difference Method has been developed to model the transient incompressible turbulent free surface fluid flow. A single fluid has been selected for modeling of mold filling and The SOLA VOF 3D technique was modified to increase the accuracy of simulation of filling phenomena for shape castings. For modeling the turbulence phenomena k-e standard model was used. In or...

Numerical Study of Single Phase/Two-Phase Models for Nanofluid Forced Convection and Pressure Drop in a Turbulence Pipe Flow

In this paper, the problem of turbulent forced convection flow of water- alumina nanofluid in a uniformly heated pipe has been thoroughly investigated. In numerical study, single and two-phase models have been used. In single-phase modeling of nanofluid, thermal and flow properties of nanofluid have been considered to be dependent on temperature and volume fraction. Effects of volume fraction a...
